Welcome to the Weekend – 5 Things for Singles to do on the Weekend

Welcome to the

Hi single women and men and WELCOME TO THE WEEKEND!!!

I know for some of you the weekend can be good and for some the weekend can be bad.  To be totally transparent with you I used to loath the weekends.  Weekends to me meant after all the running around I did with my children… sitting at home lonely with nothing to do.  However, one day the light went off in my head and I realized that I am responsible for my own happiness and this alone time was a prime opportunity to do the very things which made me happy.

If you are reading this and you are single I want to provide you with 10 things to do on the weekend when you are single.  I hope to help you beat that lonely night at home bored with nothing to do.  Until you find that special someone, date yourself often.

Find a Festival in your area and attend

I often find myself looking for festivals in my area.  Festivals are usually free or inexpensive.  My most recent festival was a Caribbean Festival <insert a plate of jerk chicken and rice and peas here>.  I grabbed my lawn chair and sat out among the other festival goers and had the best time.  Live music and food and no one in particular looking at me being there alone.

I also like to attend wine festivals in my area.  Typically though I gather a few of my other women friends and we purchase a table and make a day out of it.  This is also fun as you are enjoying the outing with other like minded people.

Treat yourself to a weekend getaway

I remember one year around my birthday, I decided to treat myself to a weekend getaway.  If you have the coins to do so you can add spa treatment services, site seeing, and/or shopping to that weekend.  I took myself to a place in Greensboro, NC called Grandover resort.  They offered spa services such as manicures and pedicures as well as table massages.  I scheduled an appointment for all 3 services.  I didn’t have to leave the resort for anything because they offered several dining options as well.  This weekend trip was a way for me to relax and remove myself briefly from the hustle of my busy life.  It was great.

Find an activity you have never done before and do it

You may have always been interested in taking a salsa or line dancing class.  The weekend is a good opportunity to find the class and attend.  I have done yoga before in college but never hot yoga.  Recently, I took advantage of a free introductory hot yoga class.  It was very enjoyable and peaked my interest so much I want to sign up for the membership.

Organize a card game and invite your friends

Nothing is more fun than a friendly game of cards.  My favorite is spades.  If you have the room in your home, invite some of your closest friends over for cards.  To keep the cost down ask everyone to bring a dish or beverage and make it a potluck of sorts.  It is always fun to gather friends over for food, folks, and fun.  Another idea is if you have some type of gaming system like a Wii where you can do bowling or dance offs.

Volunteer or participate in community service

There is nothing more rewarding for me than volunteering to help out those who need it.  One of the things that I do from mid-July to December consistently is work with a team of majorettes in the local high school band.  It is rewarding for me because I am able to not only help them with their routines and marching but also instill some values in them on being a lady and representing themselves appropriately.  If you are passionate about something you need to find a way to give back and volunteer your services.  You can do that on the weekends and it will definitely take your mind off of being single.
